Mrs. Stead taught so many of us the basic survival skills of life (how to balance a check, how to sew, how to cook, and most importantly how to take life head on). She was a fantastic teacher that you always saw smiling. I for one am glad I knew her.

Joan Stead is Joannie Carbone to me, one of my earliest friends and Harvest Dr next door neighbor. We were Brownies and Girl Scouts, made our First Holy Communions together, played endless hours of Barbies on the garage floor, spent many crisp, fall evenings together playing "orphans" behind the trash cans in her back yard, and shared the childhood-long determination to one day beat her sister MaryBeth at our summertime, weeks-long games of Monopoly ( I don't believe we ever did). She is a large part of my childhood.
I am sorry that I will be unable to attend, but she has been on my mind and in my prayers these past days, and she will forever be in my heart. Love you, Joannie

Sarah and Allison, you both are in my prayers as is your father. Your mother was a mentor and role model to all of us at DCS. She was one of the few, special people who make the world a better place just by being in it. Her wit and common sense approach to all situations made her our "go to" person. She always knew just what to say and/or do. So many of my best memories of the Middle School were in her room. Our annual Men's Faculty Breakfast on Record Keeping Day, the sewing projects she taught her students how to make, and their final project where they had to run their own business using the skills she had taught them created wonderful memories for faculty and students. Her enthusiasm for life drew people to her like moths to a flame. Her loss is felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, but most of all by her family. She was always so proud of both of you, but of course you know that. May God give you His comfort and peace.

Mrs. Stead was a wonderful teacher and she will be missed. She taught me so many valuable lessons that I am appreciative of today! She taught the basic interview process with "choo choo chocolates", how to sew, and the correct way to read food labels... :) Her legacy lives on!

Loving, heartfilled prayers to Mrs. Stead's family. My heart is heavy with sadness; she was my Home Economics teacher when I was in school. She was truly my favorite teacher-so kind and patient and a wonderful person to learn from. She was an angel on Earth, now she is one in Heaven. May she and her family be Blessed in these trying times <3. Sincerely, Michele Guy-Alvarez/ Class of 1986.

I am absolutely heartbroken. Not only was Joan my teacher when I was in Jr. High School, but also my colleague when I worked in the same building. She also had the opportunity to teach my daughter for one year. Always the sweetest lady. Never had a bad word to say about anything. I looked up to her. I am certain she loved her family more than life itself and that she will be watching over each of you. I hope you find comfort in the memories you made with her. I know that is what I will hold closely.

Where does one start when it comes to such a classy lady! Joan has touch the lives of so many through her teaching home economics, including my two children and I believe a couple of my Grandchildren. I have some of the best cookies recipes that was brought home from your class and so Joan will live on in my house forever. I had the pleasure of working with Joan when the middle school closed and I have to say I have never worked with anyone as wonderful as Joan. Her door was always open and she loved everyone! Joan you will be missed my many and you my friend will be one of the most beautiful angel looking over us!
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficulty time in your life.
