Obituary of Harold Miles Gilbert

Dansville- Harold M. Gilbert age 94, passed away at home Wednesday morning January 20, 2016 following an extended illness. He was born in Dansville on December 11, 1921, a son of the late Miles and Alma Knights Gilbert. He was also predeceased by his brother Earl Gilbert. On September 4, 1948, he was married to Marilyn Ellis Gilbert, who survives. Harold was a bookbinder at the former FA Owen Publishing Company and later Dansville Press, retiring in 1987. After retirement Harold operated a book binding repair service from his home for many years. He was a member of the South Dansville United Methodist Church. Harold was a member of the Lake Erie Region Car Club, the Veterans Motor Car Club, Livingston and Wyoming Car Clubs the last charter member of the Genesee Valley Car Club and the last founding member of the Chemung Valley Antique Car Club. He was a life member of the Antique Car Club of America and member of the Horseless Carriage Gazette the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. Harold and his best friend Walter Benedict of Canisteo were instrumental in the development and organization of the Annual A.A.C.A Flea Market held at Hershey PA every year from 1953. Walter retired from selling in 1989, my wife Marilyn took his place at that time until 2007 when I retired due to health reasons. Harold was also the author of two published books, "Looking Back" and "A Book of Humorous Short Stories". He also enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills play football. Surviving in addition to his wife Marilyn, are a daughter Gloria (Randy) Pike of West Sparta, two granddaughters, Jennifer Pike of GA and Barbara Pike of Dansville, a special grandson SSGT Gregory La Faye of Dansville. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00pm in the South Dansville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gregory White officiating. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville, Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, 271 Main St., Dansville.
