Obituary of Charles H. Taft

Dansville- Charles H. Taft age 83, passed away early Monday afternoon November 22, 2016, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born in Hornell on September 25, 1933, the son of the late Jesse P. and Evelyn (May) Taft. He was also predeceased by twin infant sons, Dwight and Michael Taft, and two sisters Eleanor Kyes and Evelyn Stryker. On January 28, 1956, he was married to Barbara Curtis Taft who survives. Charlie was mechanic and the owner of the former Taft Tire Center in Dansville. He was a Graduate of the Aeronautic Academy at LaGuardia Airport. He was an avid pilot and member of the Dansville Pilot's Association, the Finger Lakes Soaring Club, and the Flying Farmers. He was a former FAA Inspector and Certified Airplane mechanic. He was also a member of the Dansville United Methodist Church, a former member of the Phoenix Lodge # 115 of the F & AM and the Conesus Lake Yacht Club, where he also enjoyed sailing. Charlie also spent time as the Town of West Sparta assessor. Surviving in addition to his wife of sixty years Barbara, are four sons; Charles (Linda) Taft, Timothy (Barbara Langella) Taft, Stephen (Karen) Taft, and Matthew (Tomoe) Taft; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Saturday from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
