Syracuse / Dansville- Mary Gail (Conway) Welch was called home by the Lord on Friday, April 22, 2022, in the home of her daughter Jean Byrnes and her family. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Dansville on October 15, 1933, she was the daughter of E. Leo and Mary Amelia (Burnside) Conway. On August 30, 1952, she married the love of her life Gerald James Welch, Sr. who predeceased her in August of 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers Neil J. Conway, Robert J. Conway and James A. Conway, her sisters-in-law Angie (Taylor) Conway, Doris (Wiseman) Conway, Claudette (Schirmer) Conway, Betty Jean (Bradley) Conway and Flora (Blum) Welch along with her brother-in-law John J. Welch.
She is survived by her children: Marlene W. (Jon Spinner) Foudriat, of Scarborough, ME; Gerald J. (Rene Sherry) Welch, Jr., of Dansville; Mary Amelia Welch, of Dansville; Julie (James) Dentinger, of Rochester; Lynn (David) Watson, of Middletown, DE; John E. (Patti) Welch, Sr., of West Henrietta; James M. (Natalie) Welch, Sr., of Dansville; Jean E. (William) Byrnes, of Syracuse; Karen "Sean" (Kenneth) Stiewert, of Houston, TX; Timothy C. (Catherine) Welch, of Henrietta; and Jennifer W. (Robert) Brushafer, of Dansville. In addition, she is survived by 33 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Gail was a Communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Dansville. She coordinated hourly Adoration to our Lord each Friday for years and as well as the annual Divine Mercy Novena. In addition to her family and faith, she was committed to Catholic education. Her support of St. Mary's Catholic School never wavered over the years including but not limited to her work with Catholic Schools of Dansville, the alumni association of St. Mary's, St. Patrick's and Guardian Angels. Her volunteer work for the Church also included the laundering of all the Church linens for many years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 40 Elizabeth Street, Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 10:00 AM also at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Elizabeth Street in Dansville. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at: HindleFuneralHome.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa Hat Society, P.O.
