Obituary of Janice C. Hawk

Dansville- Dansville- Janice C. Hawk age 90, passed away Saturday morning October 29, 2022, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris. She was born in Chittenango, NY on May 2, 1932, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Frances (La Moy) May. She graduated from Chittenango High School and attended SUNY Oswego, where she met her future husband. On April 21, 1951, she was married to Albert W. Hawk, who predeceased her on October 15, 2018. She was also predeceased by a son Steven A. Hawk. Jan was known for her abundant kindness and selfless generosity. One small example was the thousands of cards that she sent to family, friends and acquaintances to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and special events. Jan was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter what was needed. She made time to talk to people, was quite a storyteller, and made the best apple pie ever. Jan was a devoted member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Dansville. Over the years, she volunteered in many different capacities for the church, including church council secretary, managing the church newsletter, junior choir director, 50+ years on altar guild, being an usher and helping with the blanket ministry. She was known for her excellence in knot tying with the blankets. Jan also volunteered for the Spice Box at Noyes Memorial Hospital, the Town of North Dansville as an Election Inspector, the Clara Barton Chapter # 1 of The American Red Cross and for many, many years, with the Dogwood Festival Committee. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Henry) Robin, a son Douglas (Cindy) Hawk, a sister Dorothy Saunders, grandchildren, Andrew (Megan) Hawk, Sarah (Chris) Walczyk, Trinity Robin, Heather Robin, Penny (Adam) Leven, and 8 great-grandchildren. Friends may call Monday, November 7 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home Inc, 271 Main Street, Dansville NY 14437. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 8, at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Dansville.
