Obituary of Allan Joseph Carmody

CANASERAGA, NY – Allan Joseph "Jed" Carmody, 67, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness and a battle with Follicular Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Born on February 9, 1956 in Dansville, NY, Jed is survived by son, Seth (Laurie) Carmody and grandchildren, Ellie and Owen, all of Baltimore, Maryland; daughter, Ashley of Dansville; sisters, Carol Sherrod and Ellen Totman both of Dansville, Betty Carmody of Scottsville; brothers, Jerry Sullivan and Joe Sullivan, both of Dansville; several nieces and nephews, many life-long pals and dear friends. He was predeceased by siblings Delores Castro, Kay Hamilton, Norman Carmody, John Carmody and Jay Carmody. Jed enjoyed all the people, places, and experiences in his life -- from his old neighborhood and White Sabers friends, to his classmates of all ages (he graduated Dansville Central Class of 1974). Most of all though, he cherished having children and a home of his own in Canaseraga, NY where he lived for the last 40 years. Jed worked in construction all his life and was known for his outstanding masonry which he often said was a skill he learned from work mentors and friends who were the "best of the best". He worked for many years at Bennett Brothers Construction in Dansville and for Spoleta Construction in Rochester. An avid hunter and fisherman, Jed loved being in the woods with his brothers, nephews, friends and his beloved German Shorthair, Greta. He enjoyed his home and neighbors, gardening, canning, cooking, listening to smooth jazz, and watching the Buffalo Bills. He was happiest when he was with those nearest and dearest to him. Jed was a long-time member of the Dansville Rod and Gun Club and a member of the American Legion - Daniel Goho Post 87 in Dansville. Friends may call on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hindle Funeral Home 271 Main Street, Dansville, NY 14437.
