Obituary of Erwin Rawleigh

South Dansville- Erwin F. Rawleigh age 92, of South Dansville, passed away early Friday evening December 12, 2008, at the Hornell Gardens Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past several years.He was born in the Town of Ossian on July 2, 1916, a son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Mahus) Rawleigh. On June 20, 1935, he was married to Frances A. (Willitt) Rawleigh, who predeceased him on July 1, 1998. He was also predeceased by a son Randy Rawleigh, and siblings, LeGrande Rawleigh, Marion Meyers, Alberta Rawleigh and Althea Phelps.Erwin was employed a Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville for over thirty-three years, retiring in 1976 from the lay out department. He owned and operated Rawleigh Plumbing and Heating for twenty two years. He was a member of the twenty-five year club at Foster Wheeler and the Local IAM # 1665. He was a past member of the South Dansville Fire Dept, and a life member of the American Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed building model airplanes, fishing and digging for Herkimer Diamonds and was unofficially known as the "Rock Hound" at his gem shop in the garage at home.He is survived by three daughters, Joanne Pfaff of Arkport, Kathie (Wayne) Pfaff of Hornell and Pamela (Richard) Smith of Arkport, a daughter in-law, Carol Rawleigh of Cortland, two sisters Blanche Pearson, and Eileen Morehead, and his twin brother Eldred Rawleigh. Eleven grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Friends may call Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where services will be held at the completion of calling hours.
