He was born in Wellsville on January 25, 1941, a son of Leland and Ethel (Downey) Stebbins. He was raised by Walter and Mildred (Gates) Downey of Dansville. On October 5, 1968, he was married to Catherine "Mickey" (Byrnes) Downey, who predeceased him on February 19, 1998, he was also predeceased by his father Walter Downey on May 11, 2008. Ron was a retired mill operator from Victor Insulator in Victor. He enjoyed walking his dog, spending time with his family and watching Fox news on television. He is survived by his mother Mildred Downey of Dansville, his children, Ronald (Rita) Downey of Sparta, Ruth Downey of Rochester, Lorrie Zone and John (Juanita) Lieders both of Wayland. Three brothers, Harold (Linda) Stebbins and Wayne (Donna) Stebbins both of Macedon and Harvey (Sue) Stebbins of Andover, a sister, Linda (Ron) Whitesell of Andover, five grandchildren Gina Santoro, Michael and Maria Downey, Scott and Cody Zone and several nieces and nephews.Friends may call Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where services will be held at the completion of calling hours. Interment will be in Evergreen Covered Bridge Cemetery, Springwater on Friday at 11:00am.
