Obituary of Irene Veronica Leyden

Dansville- Irene Veronica Leyden, age 90, passed away Saturday Sept 29, 2012, at Highlands Living Center in Rochester. Irene was born in New York City, on December 11, 1921, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Egan) Smith. She was predeceased by a brother Thomas and a sister Agnes Smith. Irene was raised in New York City where she met her husband, John Leyden. They were married on July 6, 1946, after he was discharged from the military. John and Irene shared their lives for 65 years, until John predeceased her in May of this year. They moved to Dansville in 1957 where Irene was employed by Dansville Central School as a secretary for 20 years. Irene was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville and a member of the Rosary Alter Society. Irene is survived by four sons, John Leyden Jr of Dansville, Dennis (Shirley) Leyden of Batavia, David (Darby) Leyden of Pittsford, and Thomas (Ellen) Leyden of Arkport; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Wednesday from 3-6 pm at Hindle Funeral Home 271 Main Street, Dansille.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, Dansville. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com.
