The best summers of my childhood were spent on the farm, with Uncle Bill, Aunt Ruth and all the cousins. Summer hayrides and the bottomless tub of pops, kittens and more kittens~! God bless you always Uncle Bill, I will miss you.
Love,
Your niece Laurie

The first time I ever met Bill, we were both on the Livingston County Historical Board for the museum in Geneseo. He treated me as if he had known me all his life. Easy going, easy to talk to and a real sweetheart of a man. When I introduced him to my husband for the first time, Bill remarked, "Oh my yes, I have known Dave Harter since before dirt" and we all had a good laugh. Bill is one of the great guys and he will be missed. My sincerest sympathies to Ruth and his family.

Memories of Uncle Bill and the Farm will last forever. All those Slaight family reunions years ago when we were all alot younger seem almost like it was yesterday.
My wife Charlotte an I visited Western New York several years ago for the first time in 30 years. We stopped by with Aunt Peggy to have a visit with Uncle Bill and Aunt Ruth. Bill took Charlotte and I on a worldwind tour of the hayloft, farm property, drove up the hill passing property which the Redmond's had owned in the past, including the homestead and church. Then drove us through the field to his well all the time explaining how his Dad laid the pipe all the way to the farm which looked really far away. Bill also informed us that he had just completed this feat again so that the farm would have a good working water supply for the next century. After the Slaight/Redmond tour we drove down the hill to the valley floor where he walked us in to the huge dairy milking room like he owned it. All the time Uncle Bill was passing on our family history at a neverending clip. The farm visit that day ended in the kitchen with a wonderfull lunch with Bill, Ruth and Peggy.
We will miss you Uncle Bill but at the same time you will always be walking right next to me right up to my last couple steps.
With all are love, Mike Bell and the rest of the California Bells.

Bill (and Ruth) took me into their home with their six children when I was just starting my college career. I lived there on the farm in West Sparta for three summers. I learned about farming, family and life from all the members of the Slaight family. It has been the most joyful part of my upbringing. Bill was a stern but caring taskmaster and mentor. His life lessons were pragmatic and isightful, tempered by wisdom. I have visited Bill and Ruth as often as I could, not as often as I would like to have. These visits have brought back a flood of memories and emotions, most of which I cherish dearly. This beloved man (and his wife and children) will always be sweet and gentle in my memories. May he enjoy rejoining his parents and other members of his caring family. My deepest condolences to his "best friend" Ruth and their children. JFZ

My condolences to the Slaight family on the passing of Bill. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and will be missed. I have great memories of Bill, Ruth and the Slaight family as I grew up in Dansville and hung out with Charlie. I loved to call the house to hear the ringing sound of "Slaights" as the phone was answered. To me a testament of a man's life accomplishments is his children. I have met most of you and have to say that Bill did a fantastic job. God bless you all!

Ruth and family, So sorry to hear of your loss. He was such a wonderfull man and friend. I remember bringing the kids over at lamb time and he would always spend time with them in the field while they played and yes we did take one home. I have so many fond memories of him as an insurance man also. To many stories to tell. I know the Town of West Sparta just lost another fine citizens. Thinking of you all.
