Obituary of Dr. Theodore John Beyer

He was born in New York City to Dr. Fritz Beyer and Marie Knipfer, he attended Peter Stuyvesant High School . He Graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1945. He was a member of the Cornell Crew. While at college he was enlisted in OTS training, US Army. He opened his Veterinary Practice in Hornell, NY, where he practiced for 50 years, retiring in 1993. He was known to many as "Doc" and loved all animals. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association for 67 years, devoting his practice to large and small animals. He was past President of The Southern Tier Veterinary Association. Dr. Beyer was a consultant between 1990-1996 for the Alfred State College Veterinary Technology Program. He was instrumental in helping the College get the program initiated and accredited. He was devoted to bettering Education and served 35 years of school board work including 16 years on the Hornell School Board and 25 years of service on the Steuben-Allegany BOCES board. He served on the New York State Education Committee, where he pioneered efforts to help city school districts secure state funding. He also served as Chairman of the Cities Committee. He was a member of the F&A.M. Masons Grand Lodge #44, Hornell Elks Club, and Hornell Exchange Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline F. Zerfass Beyer and his four children and eight grandchildren: Charles and Bonnie Beyer, son Alex and daughter Krista; Deborah Beyer, son, Steven Martini; Glenn and Bonnie(Beyer) Gotshall, sons Robbie, Danny and daughter Jamie; Theodore J. Beyer Jr. and Janet, son Dean and daughter Gretchen. He is deeply missed by his family. A Memorial Service for Dr. Beyer will be held at the United Presbyterian Church, 150 Main St. Hornell NY on Saturday, March 12, at 2:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow in the church. Interment will be Greenmount Cemetery in Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville, NY.
