Springwater/Rochester- Clarabel C. "Clara" Yarger passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at age 91, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris from complications of Alzheimer's. She followed her beloved husband of 41 years, Harry Yarger who died in 1987. She was born Clarabel Christine Brasted in Howard NY, to Ray and Hazel Brasted of Avoca, later of Wayland, NY. She was also predeceased by her parents, siblings, Warren Brasted and Virginia "Ginny" Lawrence. Clara is survived by her children; James (Mary) Yarger of Wayland, Dale (Misha Norton) Yarger of Oakland, CA, Elaine (Dana) Yarger-Mitchell of Churchville; grandchildren; James (Pauline) Yarger Jr., of Niagara Falls, Kathleen (William) Storrs of Wayland, Tyler Mitchell of Churchville, and a great-granddaughter Alexys Martindale of Wayland. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren by marriage. Clara met her husband Harry in the mid 1940s while working for Taylor Instrument Co. in Rochester, where she played center on the Ladies Industrial League basketball team. Later, she became president of the # 37 School PTA, was a Girl Scout leader, taught Sunday School at Asbury 1st United Methodist Church, and worked as a home health aide and for the King's Daughters Home in Dansville. She was a member of the Golden Agers, the Springwater United Methodist Church, she volunteered at the Wayland Clothes Cupboard, the Wayland Historical Society, the Wayland Free Library and the Annual Wayland Potato Festival. In 2004, she was named Senior Citizen of the Year from Springwater for her volunteer work and commitment to her community. Clara was also an expert crotchetier, a breast cancer survivor and made the best Christmas cookies. A memorial service will be held on Sunday (Today) at 2:00pm at Asbury 1st United Methodist Church 1040 East Ave. in Rochester where she was a member for over 60 years. Interment next to her husband Harry took place on Saturday in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Springwater. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com. Clara's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff on "Memory Lane" at the Livingston County CNFR for the excellent, indeed unparalleled, care, service and love given to Clara during her years as a resident.
