To the best English teacher...I have such great memories of laughter and learning from Mr. Basta's classes. He had a passion for his students to learn the English language and use it well! After recently bumping into him at a Red Wings game, he called me by name some 30+ years later! When I recite some of those Shakespear lines in my head still, I'll think of you fondly, Mr. Basta! THANK YOU for some great memories. God bless you and your family.

Jean and Frank are like family to us. I especially remember when my five children were younger that we would be invited to their house for dinner, etc. We spent many holidays with their family. There aren't too many people that would have invited a couple with five little children to their house for dinner! Frank was also a sponsor for our son, Mark, for the sacrament of Confirmation. Jean was a sponsor for our daughter, Anne. We have remained good friends for over 44 years. We will never forget him and will miss him.

You left us with more than you'll ever know and we are all blessed with having known you. I hope that you will watch over us all with the same passion you brought to life. Deidy.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Basta's passing. I would see him at TOPS on occasion, and he would always stop to talk to me and call me by name. I attribute my love of literature to him, and will always cherish the two years that I was in his class. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

When I walked into Mr. Basta's class for the very first time, I knew this man was going to be special. He had so much passion for the arts and literature and it felt contagious. I was tremendously blessed to be his student and a friend later on in life.
At one of my reunions, I asked him to dance to "Brick House"...yes, it's true...and he accepted. Mr. Basta could dance better than any 20 year old I've ever seen.
At another reunion, I had the pleasure of chatting with both Mr. and Mrs. Basta. They recounted their courtship in such vivid detail and with great humor. I was fascinated and warmed by their endearing charm.
Frank Basta will be truly missed.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Basta, I have been thinking about him for a week or so but have difficulty driving (as I am recovering from major back surgery) and just got the ok to drive short distances and I live in Canisteo so nver got to Dansville. Mr. Basta was my English teacher all but one year throughout jr and sr. high school for whatever reasons and he was super. I was unable to attend the last class of 1965 reunion and I deeply regret as I saw he was also there. I will always remember him with respect and his constant good will for people. He came to my RN reception and my kids just could not say enough about him; from he is cool to I wish he taught me instead of Ms. so and so. May he RIP

It's hard to explain the influence Frank had on my life. I learned to love poetry and literature from him, and later I decided to teach English because of the joy I felt in his class. There were so many days I thought of him when I was teaching. When I worked at the library in high school, I would automatically renew his books for him so he wouldn't get a fine. His library number was 4, so it was easy to remember. I hoped it would help me to a better grade! He was a great friend to both my parents. I hope my former students remember me with the same fondness and respect I have for him.

"What do you think of Alibi Ike?" ast Carey. "Who’s that?" I says. "This here Farrell in the outfield," says Carey. "He looks like he could hit," I says. "Yes," says Carey, "but he can’t hit near as good as he can apologize." Then Carey went on to tell me what Ike had been pullin’ out there. He’d dropped the first fly ball that was hit to him and told Carey his glove wasn’t broke in good yet, and Carey says the glove could easy of been Kid Gleason’s gran’father.
God bless Frank Basta

I never knew Mr. Basta personally, to be honest I just heard of him today but from reading his obituary I can tell he was a lovely person who cared deeply for others, and really loved what he did. I’m not sure if his family still looks at these, I know it’s been almost 12 years, but I felt really bad when I read this. I volunteer at the community support shoppe in Bloomfield, and someone donated some purses today. In one of them I found Mr. Basta’s obituary cut out from a newspaper. I’m assuming this newspaper clipping is very important to them, and I want to return it. If you have any idea of who I should return it to, please contact me at (585) 364-4862
I send my condolences to his family and friends. He was a clearly wonderful person. May he rest in peace.
