Obituary of Donald Monahan

Dansville- Donald John Monahan age 92, passed away late Saturday evening July 6, 2014, at Noyes Memorial Hospital Dansville. He was born in Springwater on May 15, 1922, a son of the late Frank and Margaret (Marks) Monahan. He was also predeceased by his daughter Sarah Frost. On January 4, 1945, he was married to Mary Freas Monahan who survives. He was a US Navy WWII veteran. Don was a member of the Daniel Goho Legion Post #87 of the American Legion and the Frank J. Casbolt # 6780 of the VFW both of Dansville, a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #1130 in Dansville. He was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary’s Church in Dansville. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and collecting night crawlers and selling them from his home on Franklin Street for many years. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary E. Monahan, a daughter, Colleen (Jim) Cone of Dansville, a son in- law Mark Hainey of Dansville, a sister Joyce (Andy) Wirth of Dansville; grandchildren, Mike (Savannah) Frost, Matt Frost, Erin (Mike) Kewin, Tracy Frost, Mary Cone, step- grandchildren Kristy (Patrick) Hainey, Rebecca (Scott) Stanley, Stacey (Phill) Hainey and several nieces and nephews, an adopted daughter Mary (Jim) Yarger. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 am in St. Mary's Church, Dansville. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Dansville.
