Obituary of Richard Jay Gray

Dansville- Richard J. Gray age 72, passed away early Wednesday morning January 21, 2015, at home following a long illness. He was born in Dansville, on February 27, 1942. On April 20, 1963, he was married to the former Helen Freiner Gray who survives. He was predeceased by his mother Leona Gray. Dick was a truck driver for Shay’s Services Inc., in Dansville for twenty-eight years. He was a member of the American Airflow Club, the Dansville Fish & Game Club, the Southern Tier Snow Riders Club, and the Teamster’s Local # 118. Dick was a person of great-integrity, strength and kindness. He was affectionately known as the man on the bike with his three dogs running alongside him. Anyone who knew Dick will remember him for his sense of humor and road trips to find antique cars. Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years, Helen, are his son, R. Brian (Leslie) Gray, a daughter, Pamela (Thomas) Mark, two sisters, Mary Gray-Wright and Robin Cleveland, a brother Michael (Sandra) Le Bar, grandchildren, Ben, Brandon, Alec, and Lukas Gray, Bethany Rahr, Joel Vanfleet, Riley and Ryan Conklin, Cody, Garrett and Shaelyn Mark, a great-grandchild Kohta Vanfleet, sister and brother in-law, Anne Nye and James (Dianne) Friener, and special friends John (Rosalie) Jamison, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Hindle Funeral home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Church, 6 North St., in Canaseraga. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canaseraga.
