Obituary of Mildred Arvella Downey

Dansville- Mildred A. Downey age 89, passed away Tuesday evening August 14, 2012 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. She was born in the Town of Dansville on September 5, 1922, a daughter of the late Clair Erwin and Agnes Ann (Eveland) Cates. On July 7, 1962, she was married to Walter Downey, who predeceased her in 2008. She was also predeceased by a step-son Ronald Downey and a sister Francis Agnes Gates. Mildred worked in the advertising department at the former FA Owen Publishing Company in Dansville retiring in 1997. Mildred and her late husband Walter where faithful members of the South Dansville United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir for over sixty five years. She is survived by her brother Otto (Sarah) Gates of South Dansville, grandchildren, Ronald Downey of Sparta, Ruth Downey of Rochester, Lorrie Zone and John (Juanita) Lieders both of Wayland. Great-grandchildren Gina (Jeremy) Pifer, Michael and Maria Downey, Scott and Cody Zone and several nieces and nephews, and her dear friends Betsy Peter's and Duke (Donna) Flint. Friends may call Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at the South Dansville United Methodist Church, where services will be held at 12:00 noon. Interment will be next to Walt in Rogersville Forest Lawn Cemetery, South Dansville Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville.
