Obituary of Gordon Anthony Nichols

Dansville- Gordon Anthony Nichols, age 97, passed away Monday evening April 15, 2019, at his daughters’ home in North Carolina following a long illness.

He was born in York, NY on November 17, 1921. A son of the late Gordon Walter and Jennie (Gray) Nichols. He was predeceased by his first wife of 58 years, Mary Jo (McCray) Nichols in 2001. He was also predeceased by his sisters Irma King, Lettie McIntyre, Viola White, his brothers, Norman and Stewart Nichols. In 2002 Gordon married Marion (Koch) Nichols who survives.

Gordie was a proud Marine.  He was in the Marines for a little over 3 years during World War II and was a gunner. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge #115.  He held the positions of Master, Chaplain, Secretary and Trustee throughout his time there.  He was also part of the Royal Arch Masons, Chapter 91, and he held the position of secretary.  Gordie was a member of the Mystic Shrine, where he reached the position of Noble.  He was a member of the Scottish rite, and had gotten to the 32^nd degree.  He was also a member of the Masonic War Veterans. Gordie was a member of the Dansville Rod and Gun Club, where he served as president during his time there. He worked briefly at Foster Wheeler before he entered the Marines.  He also worked Shay’s and the post office for over 30 years. Gordie enjoyed hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and walking up the Ossian hill road to stay in shape.

Surviving in addition to his wife Marion, are his children, Donna (Gene) Moore, James Nichols, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday May 2, 2019 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Hindle Funeral Home Inc. 271 Main St. Dansville, NY. A memorial service will be held on Friday May 3^rd 11:00am at the Dansville Presbyterian Church 3 School St. Dansville, NY. Following the memorial service interment with full military honors will be in Greenmount Cemetery Dansville.
