Obituary of Howard John Buchanan

He was born in Groveland on May 17, 1926, a son of the late Joseph and Katherine Riordan Buchanan. On July 31, 1954, he was married to Betty Gross Buchanan, who predeceased him on June 7, 2006. He was also predeceased by his children, Donna and James Buchanan, and siblings, Gertrude Beisel and Frances Gerace. Howard was the transportation supervisor at the Dansville Central School for twenty eight years retiring in 1981. He was also employed as a truck driver at Shays Service Inc. for over twenty five years; Owen Brothers Trucking for ten years, and had also delivered school busses for Matthews Buses, and cars for Expressway Auto Auction all of Dansville. He was a member of the Teamsters Local # 315 and the Daniel Goho Post # 87 of The American Legion. He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Bob) Bovee of Dansville. A brother George (Vera) Buchanan of Groveland, seven grandchildren, Tracy Buchanan, Amanda (Mike) Rider, Danielle, Erika, and Billy Ernst, Jeremy and Joshua Bovee. Several nieces, nephews and many friends. Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the Hindle Funeral Home Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville, where services will be held Tuesday at 11:00am with the Rev. James Stevens officiating. Interment will be next to his dear wife Betty in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. Contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor, NY, NY 10005.
