Obituary of Virginia Carmella Van Winkle

Dansville- Virginia Carmella "Ginnie" Van Winkle age 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior early Friday morning November 26, 2021, at home with family at her bedside. She was born in Dansville on September 24, 1928, a daughter of the late Leonardo and Carmella (Speziali) Mistretta. On July 10, 1948, she was married to Daniel F. Van Winkle, who predeceased her on February 5, 2008. She was also predeceased by her siblings John Mistretta, Lena Bovee, and Patricia Walker, a son in-law Freddy Howell and a grandson, Nicholas Pontillo Jr. Virginia was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville, where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She was a very well known and talented baker and caterer in Dansville for many years. A friend to many she enjoyed candid conversation over a cup of coffee and a homemade cookie. She had also worked as a cashier at Tops Markets and the former A&P in Dansville. She was also a car counter at the former D& MM Railroad. She is survived by three daughters Kathy Button, Karen Howell and Becky (Brad) Bowen all of Dansville, and a son Daniel (Dana) Van Winkle of FL, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews. There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on at Thursday December 2 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. Arrangements are by the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St. Dansville Online memorials may be at HindleFuneralHome.com.
