Obituary of Carolyn Baker

Dansville- Dansville- Carolyn Ruth Baker age 87, passed away peacefully late Monday night March 20, 2023, at Noyes Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Salamanca, NY on December 6, 1935, a daughter of the late Ernest and Elsie (Reed) Wehling. On September 15, 1956, she was married to Rodney Baker who survives. Carolyn held a bachelor’s degree in nursing and worked as a nursing supervisor for Noyes Memorial Hospital for many years. She also worked at St James Hospital in Hornell. Following retirement, she volunteered at both the Vincent and Theresa hospice houses as a grief counselor and nurse. She was an old school nurse who took her job seriously and she was proud to wear her nursing cap as part of her uniform. Carolyn served on the church council for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was a devoted member for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, baking, reading, and spending time with her family. Her kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by many. Surviving Carolyn is her loving husband of 66 years Rodney, their children, Steven (Arline) Baker, daughters, Janet (Alex) Puentes, Diane (Steven) Marsfelder, grandchildren, Kyle Baker, Andy (Michelle) Strommen, Nina (Zack) Pile, two great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Luke Pile, sisters, Linda (Thomas) Matkovic, Anita Kelly, a brother, James (Jo) Wehling, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc. 271 Main St., Dansville. A funeral service will be held on Friday 10am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 21 Clara Barton St. Dansville with burial immediately following in Greenmount Cemetery.
