John was born in New York City, on January 1, 1917 the son of the late John and Mae Sullivan Leyden. She was predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen and Loretta. John was raised in New York City where he met his wife, the former Irene Smith. They were married on July 6, 1946 after he was discharged from the military. John and Irene shared their lives for 65 years. They moved to Dansville in 1957 where John was employed by Shay Trucking, now Main Tire, as an accountant retiring in 1992. John was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy from 1942-1946. John was a communicant of the Holy Family Parish, a member of the Daniel Goho American Legion post, the Rotary club and the Exchange club, all of Dansville. John is survived his wife Irene Smith and their, 4 sons, John (Diane) of Dansville, Dennis (Shirley) of Batavia, David (Darby) of Pittsford, Thomas (Ellen) of Arkport; 8 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday from 2-6 pm at Hindle Funeral Home 271 Main Street, Dansville, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, at10 AM at St. Mary's Church, Dansville. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Dansville. Online remembrances may be left at HindleFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Vincent House 310 Second Avenue, Wayland, NY 14572
